Professor Cook just returned from sabbatical in Germany, where she was working as a Humboldt Fellow and a visiting scientist at GFZ-Potsdam.  At GFZ, she was part of a research group that studies ‘frozen methane’ or gas hydrate with Dr. Erik Spangenberg and Dr. Judith Schicks. She ran three new experiments to measure the shear strength, velocity and resistivity of gas hydrate.  She also made her own gas hydrate samples and importantly, lit her own samples on fire!  Prof. Cook had an amazing time exploring Germany with her friends and family.  She is planning to go back to finish her Humboldt fellowship in Summer 2024.
