Health, safety, and conduct

We are thrilled you're joining us for this exciting and educational journey! As we prepare for an adventure that involves daily hiking and spans a variety of elevations, it's crucial that we share and abide by a common code of conduct. This code ensures everyone's safety, wellbeing, and the overall success of the course.

Failure to adhere to these rules could result in disciplinary action. We're here to learn, enjoy the stunning landscapes, and make lifelong memories together. Let's respect each other, our surroundings, and the academic integrity of our course to ensure that our field camp remains a memorable and positive experience for all.

Respect for Each Other

We are committed to creating a learning environment that is inclusive, respectful, and supportive. All participants are expected to:

  1. Maintain professionalism: Treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, or beliefs. Harassment, discrimination, or any form of disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  2. Promote healthy communication: Encourage open, honest, and respectful dialogue. Avoid offensive or divisive language.
  3. Value privacy: Respect each other's personal space and privacy.

Respect for the Environment

As we traverse the varying landscapes of Utah, it's crucial to minimize our impact on the environment. Participants are expected to:

  1. Adhere to 'Leave No Trace' principles: Dispose of waste properly, leave what you find, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.
  2. Conserve resources: Minimize the use of water and electricity whenever possible.
  3. Respect the local environment: Respect the local fauna and flora. Do not remove or disturb any natural features.

Academic Integrity

  1. Maintain honesty: All coursework should be your own work. Plagiarism, cheating, or any form of academic dishonesty is strictly prohibited.
  2. Collaborate appropriately: While group work is encouraged, all final assignments must represent individual effort.

Failure to adhere to these rules could result in disciplinary action. We're here to learn, enjoy the stunning landscapes, and make lifelong memories together. Let's respect each other, our surroundings, and the academic integrity of our course to ensure that field camp is a memorable and positive experience for all.

Safety Measures

Given the physical nature of this course, we emphasize safety above all. Participants are expected to:

  1. Stay hydrated: Given the high elevations and physical activity, it's important to drink plenty of water and maintain your health.
  2. Physical safety awareness: Be aware of your physical limitations. If you feel unwell or unable to continue a hike, inform an instructor immediately.
  3. Use appropriate gear: Always wear appropriate attire and gear for hiking, taking into account the weather and terrain.
  4. Adhere to hiking protocols: Stay with the group, follow hiking paths whenever possible, and adhere to all instructions from course instructors.

NOTE: All students MUST have health insurance – either Ohio State comprehensive student health or documentation of coverage by another policy.
