Dana Caccamise is the NOAA/National Ocean Service’s (NOS) National Geodetic Survey’s (NGS) Pacific Southwest Region Geodetic Advisor. He supports the geospatial community throughout —including public- and private-sector surveyors, GIS professionals, engineers, and earth scientists—with the application of the National Spatial Reference System.Since joining the NGS in 2014, Dana has utilized his graduate degrees in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, and Geodesy to further the field. Currently residing in San Diego, California, he is hosted by the California Spatial Reference Center (CSRC) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). In addition to his advisory role, Dana is a Research Associate at the SIO’s Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP). Expanding his expertise to international cooperation, Dana serves as the US representative to SIRGAS (Geocentric Reference System for the Americas), contributing to developing and maintaining a unified geodetic reference frame for the Americas. He is also an active member of the UN-GGIM Academic Network executive committee for the Americas, engaging with professionals and academics to promote geospatial information management within the United Nations framework.
