Associate Professor Liz Griffith joined the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Science Evaluation Panel (SEP) on October 1st. This advisory group is a volunteer group of experts from the IODP member countries that primarily reviews proposals to use the IODP drilling platforms but can also advise on other scientific topics. The first meeting of the panel that Dr. Griffith will attend is in January 2024 in La Jolla, California.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Zaina Hussein Mseli, Lecturer at University of Dodoma (Tanzania), is visiting SES for 3 weeks to collaborate with Drs. Audrey Sawyer, Sue Welch, and Berry Lyons. They are working on a study of natural fluoride contamination in Tanzania groundwater. The project is a continuation of research started during the senior thesis research of alum Lynn Bell. While here, Dr. Mseli will also be speaking with Sawyer’s class, ES 5651 Hydrogeology, about groundwater issues in Tanzania, and she will give a talk with the Global Water Institute. Dr. Qian Zhao recently joined SES as a postdoc working with Professor Yanlan Liu on vegetation feedback to drought development after receiving her Ph.D. from Peking University. Welcome, Qian!
