The Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center and the School of Earth Sciences are excited to welcome three new faculty members starting in January 2024! A warm welcome to Emilie Beaudon, Melisa Diaz and Alex Michaud.

Emilie Beaudon received her Ph.D. from the University of Oulu, Finland, and joined the Ice Core Paleoclimatology Group as the Byrd Postdoctoral Fellow. She is a glaciologist and senior research associate at the Center. She continues her work on the record of atmospheric chemistry and aerosols in ice cores, typically in the polar and alpine regions.

Melisa Diaz received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and is currently an assistant professor in geography at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is an environmental chemist studying various processes in the Antarctic, Arctic, and places in between.

Alex Michaud received his Ph.D. from Montana State University, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Geomicrobiology, Aarhus University, Denmark, and is a research scientist at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in Maine. He is currently a visiting scientist at the Byrd Center. As a microbial biogeochemist, he studies microbes within and under ice and in other polar environments.

Thanks to the College of Arts and Sciences, Deans David Horn and Susan Olesik, and SES Director Steven Lower for their support.
