The Ohio State University Undergraduate Geology Club
The Geology Club within the School of Earth Science is both an academic and social club aimed at engaging undergraduate students with Earth Science material. During the weekly meetings, the club hosts a wide variety of interesting and fun presentations from experts and fellow students. These presentations cover the many different facets of Earth Science including but not limited to hydrology, volcanoes, petroleum geology, oceanography, marine geology, geomorphology, geomechanics, microbiology, geochemistry and geophysics. The club also hosts career advancement presentations, such as a CV/resume workshop, that help students plan for their future careers. The Geology Club also is connected with SES graduate students and alumni, hosting networking lunches to connect undergraduate students to those more senior in the field.
In addition to the weekly meetings in and around Ohio State’s campus, the club also has monthly field trips. Past trips have taken members to state and national parks, museums, caves, and fossil sites. The largest trip with the club was last year’s spring break trip to national parks across the southwest US, made possible with the help of generous donors! For this upcoming semester, the Geology Club is planning on going to Flint Ridge, Hocking Hills State Park & the John Glenn Dark Sky Park, Serpent Mounds State Memorial, and Mammoth Cave National Park. These trips provide an amazing experience for the club’s members, whether they are seniors preparing to launch into a geological career or hobbyists looking to delve deeper into Earth Science.
