70th Annual Bownocker Lecture Series

The School of Earth Sciences presents the 70th annual Bownocker Lectures Series this coming week with lectures on Wednesday and Thursday. This year’s dynamic speaker is Dr. Louise H. Kellogg, Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Science, University of California, Davis. Her research encompasses the dynamics of the solid Earth, with a focus on the dual goals of:
- Understanding how convection in the Earth's mantle operates and drives geologic processes, and
- Understanding the forces causing earthquakes and landscape change.
Lectures are as follows: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 7 pm there is a public lecture entitled “Seeing the Dynamic Earth: Adventures in Scientific Visualization”. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 4 pm there is a technical lecture entitled, “Origins of Mantle Heterogeneity”. Both lectures are held in 291 Mendenhall Laboratory (125 South Oval Mall, Columbus OH 43210) and are open to the public. For details, please contact 614 292-2721.
