Students in Dr. Cook’s Borehole Geophysics course are looking at sand samples from beaches all over the world to understand the range of physical properties and mineralogy in beach sands, which translates directly to the diversity of sands we see downhole. In this photo, grad student Bailey Fitzgerald (right) and undergrads Faz Ab Rahaman and Nolan Howell watch a shell found in a New Zealand sand sample fizz when exposed to HCl under the Leica Microscope. Special thanks to Dr. Cole who lets us use his lab every year for this class!
