How SES undergrad Mia Rankin spends her summer

SES undergraduates are involved in 1,001 things during the summer. Those not attending field camp take a break from classes, take on summer internships, get involved with research, and sometimes... garden. Here, rising senior Mia Rankin tells us a bit about her summer so far.

It's been a busy summer already! I have been working on creating a standard operating procedure for the microscopic evaluation of wastewater "bugs" (microorganisms). I took a break from that to visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for a day. I shadowed museum staff  killing off invasive species in the Mentor Marsh as part of a massive restoration project (pictured below). I am interning for the for Gary L. Kron Water Reclamation Facility. Currently I'm working in the lab and learning how different tests such as Total Solids (TS) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) provide data about how well the plant is running.

Finally, I've been working on my garden! It's been looking beautiful (see photo below!).
