This photograph of Prof Emeritus David Elliot was taken by Prof Emeritus Doug Pride at Rose Point Marina, Parry Sound, Ontario, in the 1990s. Mylonite gneiss, Precambrian Grenville age (~1.1 billion years). Rocks are part of a Grenvillian shear zone.
This Emeritus Spotlight was coordinated by SES alum Tim Trautman.

Most memorable moment at OSU
At the Palisade Lake barbecue on the last day of field camp in 1971, being thrown by the students into the muddy waters of the lake.
Accomplishments I'm most proud of
Most proud of the opportunities to set students on career paths. Also memorable were vertebrate fossil discoveries in Antarctica (Editor’s note: The dinosaur replica that graces the entrance to Orton Hall was discovered by David in 1991 on one of his many Antarctica treks and is named Cryolophosaurus ellioti ).
Biggest change noted in geology during my career
The emergence of widespread quantitative data analysis.
Significant changes to the School that I experienced
The growth in the number of faculty in the 1970s; the gradual shift to the geology of the environment (in the broadest sense of the word) in the 1990s.
Changes in my interests since becoming Emeritus
None!
How am I keeping myself occupied and out of trouble
Pretty well! Writing a backlog of papers and having the time to do it. Travelling, to international meetings (New Zealand, Australia, Spain, India, and South Korea, all with field trips) and to visit family across the States from upstate New York to Colorado and to the beaches of southern California, and family in Germany and Great Britain. Keeping the dog well exercised. Watching the eclipse in 2016 and awaiting the eclipse which should pass over Ohio in a few years’ time.
