Greetings Alumni from the 2021 School of Earth Sciences Field Camp! As you know, we had to cancel our summer 2020 Field Camp due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, we began planning for the 2021 Field Camp a year ago, simultaneously preparing a plan to safely operate our traditional Field Camp in Ephraim and preparing a semi-virtual Field Camp course to be taught in Ohio. We are happy to report that the university approved our plan to hold Field Camp IN PERSON, IN UTAH this summer, so we are feverishly working to make arrangements to make that happen. We cannot think of a better way to reintroduce our students to what we hope to be the beginnings of post-COVID life than to spend 6 weeks in Utah.
This summer we will be bringing 23 Ohio State students to Field Camp in Ephraim along with 3 Graduate Teaching Assistants and four total instructors. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, we have given nearly $32,000 in scholarships to cover student tuition, and we are able to offset most of other costs to attend, including travel, lodging, and some food. This support makes an enormous difference for our students, some of whom would not be able to attend without this financial support. We cannot thank you enough!
Sincerely,
Ashley Griffith
Director, Field Camp
