"SES forced me to come out of my shell/take on new challenges that I would not have if I were part of a larger school."
Where has your degree taken you?
After graduation, I completed an internship with Ohio EPA as an aquatic macroinvertebrate intern for the Division of Surface Water. (I knew nothing about bugs, AT ALL) The summer rocked my socks so much that I am currently applying to graduate schools to hopefully complete research in caterpillar parasitology. While I work as a geologist/environmental scientist for an environmental consulting company, I hope to one day become an entomologist!
How do you feel that your experience, specifically as an SES/geology student at OSU, prepared you for your career or life in general?
SES presented me with lots of experiences that forced me to work with other people/adapt to situations. Working with other classmates in the field always seemed like torture but it was a blessing in disguise, as I do 99% of my current work with other coworkers. I also think that OSU’s SES forced me to come out of my shell/take on new challenges that I would not have if I were part of a larger school.
What is your favorite memory as a student?
Going to field camp! It was a blast being in Utah with a bunch of strangers that soon became family. So much sweat, so much laughter.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Get to know everyone in the department! Looking back on my undergrad career, the memories I made with my classmates and professors still make my heart warm!
