SES researcher discover oldest glacier ice outside the poles
Research led by Lonnie Thompson of the School of Earth Sciences shows that ice preserved within Tibet's Guliya Ice Cap may be more than 128,000 years old, making it one of the oldest mountain glacier records ever recovered outside the polar regions. Published in Science Advances, the study provides new evidence that remnants of the last ice age survived in the region and offers valuable insight into Earth's climate history.
