OSU Geology & Snow University Celebrate 70th Anniversary Field Camp

Geology majors and faculty gather behind Temple Hill during field camp.

This summer the Ohio State Geology Field Camp celebrated its 70 year anniversary with host Snow College in Sanpete County, Utah. This anniversary event saw nearly 100 current and former faculty and alumni in attendance to celebrate the special event. The field camp program, which was started in 1947 by Dr. Edmund Spieker who had completed the first geological mapping of Sanpete County more than 20 years prior while working with the USGS, has seen more than 1,600 students complete their capstone geologic experience in Sanpete according to Dr. Terry Wilson, Earth Sciences emeritus faculty member. Dr. Wilson has led this geology field camp for a total of 24 years, and while she is planning on retiring soon, we appreciate the incredible work she has done with the field camp program over the years.
