SES Alumni Board Visits Campus for Strategic Planning and Student Engagement
The School of Earth Sciences Alumni Board visited campus on November 3rd, bringing together professional expertise and student curiosity through strategic planning sessions, career conversations, and a spirited scavenger hunt. Board members contributed insights to the department's new strategic plan while connecting directly with undergraduate students eager to learn about career paths in the earth sciences.
The day featured alumni-student career chats that paired board members with current majors for one-on-one conversations about professional opportunities and industry experiences. Undergraduate SES major Anastasia Walker met with Alumni Board Members Claire Mondro and Sandy Eberts to discuss career trajectories in the field.
The student-alumni scavenger hunt added an element of friendly competition to the day's activities, with undergraduate SES majors Payton Scott, Tim Stevens, and Jacob Bockenstette emerging victorious alongside alumnus Joe Studilick.
"The board meeting was really successful this fall," said Professor Ann Cook. "I've received really positive feedback from the students who participated in the career chats with the alumni."
The fall meeting continued the Alumni Board's commitment to supporting both the department's strategic direction and the professional development of current students, creating meaningful connections between SES graduates working in diverse earth science fields and the next generation of geoscientists.
