Coral reefs are among the largest and most diverse underwater ecosystems on Earth. Monitoring the geometric and colorimetric properties of living corals over time is crucial for understanding broader climate impacts, yet remains a challenging task. Photogrammetry using underwater imagery is a key approach for modeling coral structures, but its successful application often requires costly equipment and specialized expertise—barriers for many coral scientists and reef managers. This talk will present our ongoing efforts to develop a novel photogrammetric workflow and software package designed for low-cost GoPro cameras. Our goal is to make 3D coral monitoring more accessible to reef managers and scientists. The talk will begin with an introduction to photogrammetry and its applications, and then highlight our work in adapting this complex process for efficient underwater coral modeling.
