Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

November 2025 Brevia

Shannon Dixon: I am grateful to have been awarded the OSU Presidential Fellowship  for my dissertation work titled "Enhanced heterotrophy in coral could promote resilience to global climate change". I would like to thank my advisor Dr. Andrea Grottoli, and my committee members: Dr. Jill Leonard-Pingel, Dr. Pat Louchouarn, Dr. Rongjun Qin, and Dr. Rob Toonen. Additionally, I could not have done it without the support of the OSU SES department faculty, staff, fellow graduate students, and alumni. Thank you to all of SES and to my grandfather, an OSU alumnus, who originally inspired me to attend OSU!

Saffron Martin: This October I was able to attend the Gas in Marine Sediments conference in Southampton, UK due to funding from Friends of Orton Hall. I presented a poster on gas hydrate filled fractures found within sediment core the offshore New Zealand. I made many new connections with other scientists within my specific field, and loved how narrow the scope of the conference was!

Morgan Leeson: The Geology Club has had many adventures this past semester including visiting Mammoth Cave National Park, fossil hunting at Trammel Fossil Park, hiking at Hocking Hills State Park, hiking at Highbanks Metro Park, and attending the American Institute of Professional Geologists' Annual Meeting and Dinner Presentation!
