Seminar Title: Breaking the plastic wave: reducing the plastic pollution problem
Abstract: Plastic has become ubiquitous. It is used widely as packaging or in products because it’s versatile, cheap, durable, and convenient. But this convenience comes with a price. Plastic waste enters terrestrial and aquatic systems at an alarming rate – 30 million tons annually - where it harms life and damages habitats. This talk will share research documenting the current trajectory for plastic pollution and highlight a pathway that is better for the environment, better for the economy, and better for communities – with a focus on opportunities to leverage and challenges to overcome.
