Title:
The Evolving Role of Geoenergy Engineering in a Changing Energy Landscape
Abstract:
As demand for reliable, affordable, and secure energy continues to grow, geoenergy engineering is playing an increasingly important role in a changing energy landscape. This seminar will explore how the geologic subsurface can support energy production, storage, and resource development through technologies such as geothermal energy, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen storage, and critical resource recovery. The talk will highlight advances in subsurface characterization, monitoring, and modeling that enable the safe and efficient management of subsurface resources. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of geoenergy systems in enhancing energy reliability, strengthening infrastructure resilience, and advancing long-term energy security. The seminar will conclude with perspectives on emerging research opportunities and the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in shaping the future of geoenergy engineering.
