Title:
Evolution’s Wonderland: Rules of diversification in the deep sea
Brief abstract:
Deep-sea fishes contain wonderfully wacky forms such as detached necks, swimming upside down, and transparent heads. What are the rules guiding the evolution of this diversity? My lab seeks to examine established concepts, like adaptive radiation, and test their suitability for explaining the macroevolution of deep-sea fishes. To this end, we combine approaches from functional morphology, systematics, genomics, and phylogenetic comparative methods. Museum specimens from natural history collections are paramount to our research.
