Retired in 1992 from OSU after 26 years during which he served as Professor, Chairman of the Department of Geology and Mineralogy, and finally Associate Provost for Administration in the Office of Academic Affairs. His research efforts were primarily in geophysics, mineralogy, and computer applications, and his teaching duties included 18 seasons at the departments summer field camp in Utah. From 1994 to 1999, he worked for the Ohio Board of Regents, first as Director of the State Postsecondary Review Entity (SPRE) program for the State of Ohio, and then as the Board's Director of Information Services.
