Kaarina and Weikko A. Heiskanen Fund

This Fund was established to promote and stimulate the scientific activity on geodesy at The Ohio State University. The annual income and/or principal, therefore, shall be used as follows: Annually on the Eve of Thanksgiving Day an award of $200, with diploma or certificate, is to be made to the person who has most successfully forwarded the cause of geodesy and strengthened the reputation of the Department of Geodetic Science and Surveying in the field of geodesy. At the same time a junior award of $100 may be made to a talented, enthusiastic and devoted student, teaching assistant, or research assistant who has had particular interest in geodesy at this University, or in lieu of the cash awards the committee hereinafter named may present an award of a certificate, medallion or other tangible evidence.

W. A. Heiskanen, born 7-23-1895, died 10-23-1971.

The Kaarina and Weikko A. Heiskanen Fund was established December 1, 1964, by gifts through the Development Fund from Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Heiskanen.

All gifts are to be invested in the University’s Permanent Endowment Fund, under the rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University, with the right to invest and reinvest as occasion dictates.

This fund was established to promote and stimulate the scientific activity in geodesy at The Ohio State University. The income and/or principal, therefore, is to be used as follows: Annually an award is to be made to a person who has most successfully forwarded the cause of geodesy and strengthened the reputation of the Division of Geodetic Science in the School of Earth Sciences (or its successor unit or subunit) in the field of geodesy. At the same time junior awards and/or scholarships, as funds permit, may be made to talented, enthusiastic and devoted students, teaching assistants, or research assistants who have had particular interest in geodesy at this University.

The committee to pass on the awards shall be composed of the Chair and faculty members of the Division of Geodetic Science in the School of Earth Sciences (or its successor unit or subunit) who shall also seek the endorsement of the Vice President for Research and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The committee, above named, may also amend the charter. If income or principal permits, the awards may be increased. For further information about the Heiskanen Award, please contact CK Shum (ckshum@osu.edu).
